A 24-year-old Czech student shot and killed his father before perpetrating a mass shooting at his Prague university, leaving 14 dead and 25 wounded on Thursday. The assailant, suspected of acting alone, may have taken his own life following the attack, marking the worst-ever mass shooting in the history of the Czech Republic.
The government declared a national day of mourning for December 23 to honor the victims of this horrifying event. The police tipped off about the suspect's intentions earlier in the day and discovered a large arsenal of weapons at the Charles University building where the incident occurred.
The shooter, described as a high-achieving student with no criminal record, is also suspected in the recent killings of a man and his two-month-old daughter in a village outside Prague. While the motive remains unclear, the police are investigating a possible connection to a terrorist attack in Russia.
The international community, including the White House and European leaders, has condemned the incident.
